Department of Biological Sciences

The mission of Department of Biological Sciences is to provide lab science education for all FDU students and to provide the professional training for Biology majors. We are committed to providing students with a solid foundation in both the theoretical concepts and practical applications of science. The Department of Biological Sciences offers courses on a wide variety of topics, from ecosystems to the molecular level and everything in-between.
The Biology major offers excellent general preparation for a wide variety of careers, as well as for advanced graduate or medical degrees. A student’s curriculum can be designed, in conjunction with an advisor, to meet specific goals such as pre-professional or advanced degree preparation.
Our graduates are well prepared to pursue a variety of careers or graduate and professional programs. The Biology major prepares students for acceptance into:
- Chiropractic school
- Dental school
- Graduate school (Master’s and PhD programs)
- Medical school (M.D. and D.O.)
- Pharmacy school
- Physician Assistant programs
- Physical Therapy programs
- Veterinary school

Department faculty are invested in student success. Faculty advisors work with students to prepare them for their post-graduation plans. Department faculty also have active research programs that involve undergraduates in their research. Students are encouraged to develop their own projects, and to present them at local and national research conferences. Some of our research students have pursued Masters and PhD’s after graduation, and are now professors themselves.
